Doha: As the country prepares to celebrate Qatar’s National Day on December 18, new stocks of souvenirs and gift items to mark the day have already hit the market.

This year, the “Darb Al Saai” festivities associated with Qatar National Day (QND) have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Instead, this year will see virtual competitions and seminars which will be broadcast on the Doha 360 website.

However, citizens and residents alike are preparing to celebrate Qatar’s National Day in a dignified manner, with houses already adorned with the national flag and other artifacts.

The stores carry various items designed to mark the day, including national flags, stickers, caps, umbrellas, scarves, t-shirts, pants, jackets, bags, balloons, and more. Another popular souvenir from QND is the key ring with the flag of Qatar printed or engraved in it.

Car decoration sets are also available containing car hood flags, as well as Qatar flags in various sizes, which can be attached to cars.

The main commercial outlets have shelves and convenience stores dedicated to National Day merchandise.

Traders said the national holiday items are attracting large numbers of customers and expect demand to continue to grow as the day approaches.

“The best-selling items are flags, stickers, badges and decorative pieces,” said Abdul Hamid Ahmad, head of the decoration section of a shopping center in the Old Airport district.

He said that 27 types of ceramic mugs printed with the national flag and landmarks of the country available in his shop are proving to be a major attraction for customers. Ahmad said: “Most of the customers for the national holiday items are students. The demand will increase in the coming days. A large number of customers are expected from December 15th.

Several retail outlets operating across the country present national holiday items in large quantities at competitive prices. “We displayed fresh stocks of national holiday items – imported as well as those made in Qatar. The items include flags of Qatar in different sizes with or without brackets, scarves, stickers and decorative pieces, ”said Mohamad Khursheed, a shopkeeper at a department store in Al Kharitiyat.

“Item prices start from QR1.5 and QR2 for stickers, reaching QR50 for car decoration sets. Most items cost from QR5 to QR10,” Khursheed added.

Beautiful dresses, T-shirts, pants, frock coats, hats and burgundy caps with the national flag are also in the spotlight in the dedicated areas of large shopping centers.
