Meijer offers thousands of general merchandise items for home delivery
Meijer is gearing up for the holidays by adding thousands of general merchandise items to its store-to-door home delivery service, challenging online retailers as competition for customer wallets continues to intensify for Thanksgiving, Christmas and seasonal celebrations.
General merchandise items now available through Meijer Home Delivery include the season’s most popular gifts and toys, as well as wrapping paper, artificial trees, and Christmas decorations. Other items added to a total of over 70,000 fresh, groceries and general merchandise handpicked by Shipt shoppers at local Meijer stores include electronics such as televisions, tablets, headphones, drones and gaming systems.
“We have had tremendous success delivering groceries to our customers across the Midwest, so we are very happy to provide them with the convenience of having their holiday gifts delivered to their doorstep as well,” said Rick Keyes, Chairman and CEO of Meijer. “Whether you are looking for a turkey, toys and gifts or even decorations, our physical stores combined with a personal shopping solution meet everyone’s holiday shopping needs.”
Since launching in Detroit last September, Meijer and its official home delivery partner Shipt have extended personalized service to over 200 stores in just 148 days. The Meijer home delivery service is now ready to make more than a million deliveries from its stores by the end of the year, and is now available to more than 10 million homes in Michigan, Indiana , Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and Kentucky.
Keyes said one of the reasons the program has been so successful is the company’s ability to offer a selection of products in its supercenters. A typical Meijer store has everything from fresh produce and groceries to general merchandise, including light bulbs, diapers, and baby items, as well as loose items, like bags of rock salt and pet food.
The National Retail Federation expects retail sales in November and December – excluding autos, gasoline and restaurants – to increase by up to 4% this year, for a total of $ 678.75 billion to $ 682 billion , up from $ 655.8 billion last year.
Since most Meijer stores are open 24 hours a day, customers can choose the delivery times that work best for them, giving them the flexibility to shop and receive orders very early in the morning or late. the evening.
Meijer also provided members of the home delivery service with the opportunity to earn mPerks rewards which can be redeemed in store, as well as offering sales on hundreds of items each week found through the Shipt app. Meijer customers can sign up for the service for $ 99 per year. Unlimited shipping is free for orders over $ 35; a flat shipping charge of $ 7 is added to any order under $ 35.
